Resume Format for B.Tech Freshers (Engineering)

The resume format for B.Tech freshers is built around one fact: you have more projects than jobs. Recruiters at service companies, product startups and core engineering firms read your projects, internships and skills before anything else, so those go near the top. Keep it to one page, use one column for the safest parsing, and write every project as a result, not a list of technologies.

Building and previewing is free. The sample below is a starting point: replace every blank with your own details.

Section order for this resume

Top to bottom, in the order recruiters read them.

  1. Contact + headline. Name, phone, email, city, LinkedIn and GitHub. Headline: "B.Tech (CSE) 2026 · Java, Spring Boot, SQL".
  2. Summary (2 lines). Branch, graduation year, the role you want and your strongest skill area.
  3. Education. Degree, branch, college, year and CGPA. Add Class 12 and 10 percentages only if the company asks for them.
  4. Projects. 2–3 projects with what you built, the stack and one number (users, accuracy, speed).
  5. Internships. Company, dates and two bullets each. Even a 6-week internship counts.
  6. Technical skills. Grouped: languages, frameworks, tools, databases.
  7. Certifications & achievements. NPTEL, hackathons, coding contest ranks — only the strong ones.

Tips that make the difference

  1. Write CGPA as "CGPA 8.2/10" so both people and parsers read it the same way.
  2. For mass recruiters (TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Accenture), match the exact skill words in the drive notice.
  3. Link GitHub only if the repos have READMEs — recruiters do click.
  4. Core branches (Mechanical, Civil, ECE): put tools like AutoCAD, MATLAB or PLC near the top.

Frequently asked questions

Should a B.Tech fresher resume be one page?

Yes. With no full-time experience, one page is enough for education, 2–3 projects, internships and skills. A second page usually means repetition.

Should I add Class 10 and 12 marks?

Add them if the company or campus drive asks for them, or if they are strong. Many mass-recruiter forms collect them separately, so the resume can stay focused on your degree.

How many projects should I list?

Two or three. Pick the ones closest to the job, and give each a one-line result such as a number of users, an accuracy figure or a speed improvement.

Is a two-column resume okay for engineering jobs?

Most modern applicant tracking systems read two columns, but a single column is the safest choice when you apply through large company portals.
