Every job role has its own resume conventions. A software engineer's resume looks different from a chartered accountant's, which looks different from a graphic designer's. This guide covers resume examples and specific tips for 12 of the most popular job roles in India.

Tech Roles

Software Engineer: Lead with your tech stack in the summary. List skills in grouped categories (Languages, Frameworks, Cloud). Every experience bullet should include a metric — lines of code don't count, but "reduced page load time by 60%" does. Include GitHub links to projects.

Freshers, office, support & core engineering

Data Analyst: Highlight tools (SQL, Python, Tableau, Power BI) and the business impact of your analyses. Example bullet: "Built automated reporting dashboard in Tableau that reduced weekly reporting time from 6 hours to 20 minutes for the sales team." Include any certifications (Google Analytics, Tableau Desktop Specialist).

Product Manager: Focus on outcomes, not features. "Launched UPI AutoPay feature — 2.4M active mandates in 6 months" is stronger than "Managed the payments feature roadmap." Show cross-functional collaboration and data-driven decision making.

Management & MBA Roles

MBA Marketing: Quantify campaign results — reach, conversions, ROI. Use the executive template with a strong summary highlighting your MBA institution and specialisation. Example: "IIM-A MBA with 5 years in FMCG brand management. Grew market share by 3.2% for a ₹400Cr personal care brand."

HR Manager: Emphasise metrics like time-to-hire, retention rates, training program outcomes, and employee satisfaction scores. Include certifications like SHRM-CP or HRCI if applicable.

Finance Roles

Chartered Accountant: List your CA membership number. Highlight audit experience, regulatory compliance, and any industry specialisation. For CA firms, mention the size of audits handled. For corporate roles, quantify cost savings or process improvements.

Creative Roles

Graphic Designer: Include a portfolio link prominently. Mention tools (Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, After Effects). Quantify where possible: "Designed brand identity for 15+ startups" or "Created social media content that grew Instagram following from 2K to 45K in 8 months."

Content Writer: Show metrics — page views, SEO rankings, conversion rates. Mention content types (long-form articles, product copy, email campaigns) and industries you've written for.

Fresher Resumes

B.Tech Fresher: Lead with education and projects. Include hackathon results, coding competition ranks, and NPTEL/Coursera certifications. Your projects section is your experience section — treat each project like a job, with tech stack and outcomes.

BBA/BCom Fresher: Highlight internships, even short ones. Include relevant coursework, Excel/Tally skills, and any campus leadership roles. A strong summary can compensate for limited experience.

Tips for All Roles

  • Keep it to one page for less than 10 years of experience, two pages maximum for senior roles
  • Use the same keywords from the job description — ATS systems match on exact terms
  • Tailor your resume for each application, especially the summary and skills sections
  • Proofread twice. One typo can eliminate you from consideration at competitive companies
